Driving knowledge and community engagement through the railway

Abstract

Railways are a key piece of mobility and play a central role in transport decarbonization. For this reason, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) at Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona, Spain, in collaboration with companies that demand specialized professionals in this field, now offers a new undergraduate engineering degree with a content focus on railway engineering. This paper discusses the rationale behind the design of this degree, its contents, and structure. In particular, it examines how taking advantage of the railway hub in Vilanova i la Geltrú is helping to connect the university with industry and the wider community.
