The Problem of Genre in The Book of Disquiet

Abstract

Much has been written about the oddness of The Book of Disquiet (TBoD). Indeed, it is a unique work and difficult to classify. Written over more than twenty years and unpublished for almost half a century after its author’s death, it is the editorial result of a selection and combination of fragments which Pessoa kept in various stages of production.
