Insights into the 2025 ESC guidelines for the management of myocarditis and pericarditis

Abstract

These are the first European Society of Cardiology (ESC) integrated guidelines on myocarditis and pericarditis,1 recognizing their shared etiopathogenic basis and introducing the new concept of inflammatory myopericardial syndrome (IMPS). This umbrella term reflects the close interplay and frequent overlap between the two conditions in clinical practice (figure 1).
