La disseminació d'hospitals al bisbat de Tortosa durant l'edat mitjana

[cat] En els segles medievals, el bisbat de Tortosa va estar nodrit per una extensa xarxa d’hospitals, que tenien per objecte l’atenció de tota mena de pobres i pelegrins, però que alhora contribuïren a la salvaguarda i seguretat del camins, i a garantir el control social dels col·lectius socials de les ciutats. El present article albira posar una primera pedra en l’estudi d’aquests establiments, a partir del seu vincle amb el territori circumdant, i també reivindicar la necessitat de protegir-los i de perpetuarne la seua memòria històrica.

[eng] During the Middle Ages the bishopric of Tortosa was nourished by a large network of hospitals that attended pilgrims and took care of the poor. They additionally contributed to the preservation and safety of the paths, ensuring ways of social control. This article focuses on the study of these medieval institutions and their bond with the territory surrounding them, underlining the need of preservation and perpetuation of their historical memory.
