Little documentary trace was left of ra¬bassaire unionism after its forced disap¬pearance as a result of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, and the repression and exile of its militants. This movement has not received much attention from histori¬ography for this reason. This article is a contribution to this still relatively un¬known topic, based on the study of one of the regions of Catalonia where thanks to rabassa morta contracts, the specialisa¬tion in viticulture became increasingly common and the rabassaire movement was consequently also more prevalent. The article traces the evolution of the rabassaire unionism in the region of Igualada from the phylloxera crisis to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, highlighting its central figures, some of whom made sig¬nificant contributions to the rabassaire movement as a whole, and its connections with republicanism and the agrarian co¬operative movement.
