dc.description.abstract
An expeditious synthesis of ß-lactams from benzyl-tethered trichloroacetamides using ruthenium catalysts in toluene under microwave activation was achieved. The new C(sp3)-C(sp3) bond formation takes place through a 'Ru'complex promoted activation of a benzylic position in a radical process.
