Abstract

The contemporary recovery of the concept of 'virtue' has given rise to a fruitful research on how to define and relate virtue to other concepts and areas. Under the name of virtue ethics, authors from different perspectives consider virtue to be an essential element of moral philosophy, since it fulfills the task of explaining the human moral dimension. Many of these authors share the intention to deal with virtue by isolating the concept of the set of notions that could contribute to its full explanation. The purpose of this paper is to review some of the contemporary definitions of 'virtue' to show that they are insufficient to define its nature
