Els Fizes, patronatge i opulència d'un llinatge de mercaders ennoblits a la Catalunya del barroc

[cat] L'article analitza la trajectòria i daltabaixos del mercader francès Pere Fizes a Catalunya (c. 1635-1680), el seu arrelament i ascens social cap a la noblesa, amb un interès especial sobre el patronatge artístic de Fizes a Terrassa, especialment a l'església parroquial del Sant Esperit, en la qual entre d'altres era aleshores fundada la confraria del sant Crist, la qual tenia prevista l'edificació d'una nova capella. La inusual intervenció de Pere Fizes en aquesta obra, mitjançant l'escultor Pere Serra, posa de manifest l'ús del patronatge artístic local en virtut d'una nova significació social.

[eng] This paper analyzes the course of the French merchant Pere Fizes in his own ups and downs in Catalonia (c. 1635-1680), his settlement and his social rise from the middle class up to the nobility. The author focuses his interest on Fizes artistic patronage at the city of Terrassa, specially in the parish church (Sant Esperit), in which at this time among others was founded the saint Christ devotional fraternity, that was able to construct a new chapel. The unusual intervention by Pere Fizes in this project, through the sculptor Pere Serra, reveals the trends towards a new social signification by using the local artistic patronage.
