A new species of Melanips Walker (Hymenoptera: Figitidae) from Mexico, Melanips lomeyva sp. nov. is described. This species represents the first record of the genus Melanips from Mexico and to the Neotropical region. Diagnostic characters of the new species are illustrated and discussed. The adults were obtained from pupae of Leucopis bellula (Chamaemyiidae) natural enemy of wild cochineal of prickly pear Dactylopius opuntiae (Dactylopiidae). Biological data and hosts of this new species are commented.
