This Bachelor’s Thesis presents the study, design, and development of the automation process of a container orientation system integrated into an industrial production line. The project has been carried out in collaboration with the company E2M Couth and focuses on the technological migration of an existing container orientation machine to a new control platform entirely based on B&R technology. The main objective of this work is to develop a functional automated system capable of controlling the motion of a belt type container orientation system, ensuring master slave synchronization between the conveyor and the servo motors responsible for rotating the containers. The system is intended to provide accurate and repeatable container orientation, achieving a production capacity of up to 40,000 containers per hour, while also offering monitoring and control tools through an HMI interface. To achieve these objectives, a detailed analysis of the mechanical and electronic system has been conducted, together with the dimensioning of the servomotors and the definition of motion profiles using electronic CAM’s. The control system has been developed using Automation Studio, employing mapp Motion, mapp Cockpit, and mapp View technologies, as well as the PLCopen Motion standard. System validation has been performed through simulation in the ARSim environment, allowing the correct behaviour of the axes, synchronization, and control logic to be verified without the need for physical hardware. As a result of the project, a system capable of performing container rotations of 90°, −90°, and 180° has been successfully implemented, corresponding to an orientation system referred to by E2M Couth as QuadraTurn.
