dc.description.abstract
Consider cyberspace as a shared resource, a common good. The
democratic governance of cyberspace is a crucial task that involves
addressing challenges related to oversight, human rights protection, the
responsible use of artificial intelligence-based technologies and
responding to cyber threats. Society has to strongly emphasize control,
transparency, and accountability in managing online security. The
governance of cyberspace is a complex interplay between public and
private actors, international cooperation, and the need for effective
regulation and control. This regulation ensures security while
upholding the democratic values at the core of our EU society. In our
view, Democratic governance in cyberspace aims to balance the roles
of governments, private sector entities, and civil society to create a
secure online environment that respects individual liberties, popular
sovereignty, and the consent of the governed.
