Resultats analítics dels materials i de la tècnica pictòrica del frontal d'Urgell

Abstract

En este estudio se investigan los materiales y la técnica pictórica usados en el frontal de la Seu d'Urgell. El autor utiliza materiales propios de esta área geográfica, hematites, aerinita, calcita, yeso, etc., y otros como ci­nabrio y oropimento, de gran calidad cro­mática e importados de otras zonas. Los re­sultados obtenidos se han agrupado en una tabla adjunta en la que se presentan de acuerdo con las coloraciones propias del frontal. La observación microscópica, óptica y elec­trónica, indica la calidad de la técnica pictó­rica: pigmento bien triturado, capas de espe­sor uniforme y deposición regular de las mismas.

This essay analises the materials and paint­ing techniques used in the frontal from the Seu d'Urgell. The materials used by the artist are typical of the provenance area: haematite, aerenite, calcite, gypsum, etc ... ; others, such as cinnabar and orpiment, are imported and of high chrornatic quality. The analysis results have been grouped in the enclosed table, where they are presented ac­cording to the frontal's colouring. Microscopic, optic and electronic research revea! the quality of the technique: well­ground pigrnent and layers of uniform thick­ness and regular deposition. Previous probes and the study of the ana­lythical data thus obtained suggest that the frontal is original and has been just slightly retouched.
