Josep Gumbau Serra (1862-1921), propietari, professor i intel·lectual empordanès

Abstract

The article wants to introduce Josep Gumbau Serra, example of the emergence of an intellectual with agrarian background, committed to various aspects of his world from the perspective of a feasible republicanism. He was city councillor of Girona and director of the “Normal” school of teachers in the same city. We present several aspects of his social, economical, cultural and political context and, in the end, explain his task and position for the cohesion and renewal of teaching in the Girona region, among others, through the publication of El Defensor del Magisterio

L'objectiu principal de l'article és donar notícia de Josep Gumbau Serra. Exemple de l'emergència d'un intel·lectual de base agrària, compromès amb diferents aspectes del seu món des del republicanisme possibilista. Fou regidor de Girona i director de l'Escola Normal de Mestres de la mateixa ciutat. Es presenten diferents aspectes del seu context social, econòmic, cultural i polític per acabar exposant la seva tasca i posició per la cohesió i la renovació del magisteri a les comarques de Girona, entre altres, a través de la publicació d'El Defensor del Magisterio
