Este trabajo tiene como objetivo ilustrar algunas muertes de mujeres a manos de sus compañeros sentimentales, maridos o amantes, en época romana. Empezando por la relación idílica que representa el amor conyugal, documentada epigráficamente y enfatizada por la literatura moralizante, algunos episodios escapan del arquetipo, mostrando una realidad cruel que trascendió el olvido gracias a su registro en las fuentes textuales. La excepcional documentación de estos casos tanto en la literatura como en la epigrafía conserva hoy el recuerdo de estos asesinatos, con detalles que permiten conocer el modo de la muerte, incluso los nombres de los culpables. |

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to illustrate some womish death by their partners, husbands or paramours, in Roman times. The starting point is marital love, which represents the idyllic sentimental relationship, as it appears in inscriptions and is emphasized by moralising literature. But some episodes break away from this archetype and show cruel facts that transcended oblivion thanks to be collected in ancient textual sources. The documentation in literature and in epigraphy of these events keeps exceptionally the memory of these murders, with details about the manner of death, even the names of criminals. |
