Michel de Certeau (1925-1986) llegeix als sants reformadors carmelitesespanyols a través de les seves empremtes en la literatura espiritual francesa del segle XVII. No es tracta tant de remuntar-se a uns orígens (genealogia) com de continuar aprofundint en uns camps discursius que es superposen, es desvien i fins i tot es transformen (arqueologia). Cal també atendre el desenvolupament de les lectures que Certeau fa dels dos autors espanyols des de L'absent de l'histoire (1973) fins als escrits que han estat recuperats i tornats a editar pòstumament a La fable mystique II (2013). La narrativitat simultània d'aquesta doble escriptura reflecteix la seva condició inconciliable: la nostàlgia d'una "présence manquante" recorre els dos nivells ja que aquesta absència impulsa el desig de enunciar-la.

Michel de Certeau (1925-1986) was reading the Spanish Reformers Carmelite saints through the traces in the seventeenth century French spiritual literature. He did not try to recover their origins (genealogy) but to go on digging in discursive fields which interact, deviate and transform each other (archeology). It is necessary to follow the development of the readings of Certeau on the Spanish authors from L’absent de l’histoire (1973) to his late essays, which han been collected posthumously in La fable mystique II (2013). The simultaneous narrative of this double writing reflects its irreducible: the nostalgia for a «presence manquante» goes through both levels as long as the absence provokes the desire of its enunciation.
