The following article analyzes the evolution of the mobility in the city of Barcelona, identifying the current stage, and try to disclose trends in public and private transport that identify mobility patterns. Barcelona is one of Europe's most densely populated cities. As many other metropolitan areas, the mobility of Barcelona is confronted with common problems such as congestion, accidents and pollution. Barcelona mobility policies are characteristic of an advanced society, addressed to promote public and sustainable transport modes. Barcelona’s authorities have implemented actions targeting to lower car use, decrease number of accidents, relieve congestion and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. The Mobility of Barcelona could be categorized as a hybrid city. The outstanding offer of mass public transport and the affordability of private vehicle produces some kind of balance between Public and private transport use. The mobility changes and the Transport Sector performance can be measured using indicators that capture volumes, rates, and numbers. Such information can report on the demand for transportation and about key trends and forecasts. Having analyzed the recent evolution of the mobility in the city of Barcelona, this report brings together multiple sources of aggregate transport modes data to develop a depiction of the City of Barcelona mobility evolution. This study tries to show and understand the evolution of transport demand, providing a comprehensive understanding of the current state and the latest mobility trends in the city of Barcelona. |
