dc.description.abstract
Unlike it is usually held, medieval noble families often divided its states among their sons, instead of leaving the whole possession to the first-born male. This article is about the division of the states of the house of Anglesola, and, mainly, about the last of the lordships that emerged from its repeated divisions: the barony of Utxafava. Thanks to the will of his first lord and some other documents we can know about the family possessions, the relations between its members, and their very complex hereditary customs. Twice the inheritance went from a son to the mother and from the mother to a nephew. At the end, the barony came back to the original lordship through purchasing.
