El movimiento de vida independiente, iniciado en los años 60 en EE.UU., ha tenido una notable influencia en la reivindicación de los derechos de las personas discapacitadas y en la transformación de su percepción social. Los fundamentos teórico-prácticos de este movimiento, así como las estrategias de actuación seguidas, hacen que este movimiento social constituya una manifestación muy notable desde el punto de vista de la transformación democrática. Palabras clave: Vida independiente, movimiento social, discapacidad. Abstract: The independent living movement, which began in the 60s in the U.S., has had a significant influence on the claim of disabled people rights and the transformation of their social perception. The theoretical and practical foundations of this movement, such as the strategic actions adopted, makes of this social movement a very significant event from the point of view of democratic transformation.
