Abstract

Some sport events can be qualified as success due to the volunteers’ task, among several elements. A key aspect to reach this success could be related to their assignment to some tasks. A Mixed Integer Linear Programming Model (MILP) optimizes the volunteers’ assignment to a set of tasks required by the organizers of a sport event. The model takes into account a set of volunteers and their profiles, their preferences on tasks and on venues of the event. The objective is to maximize the Global Aptitude of the volunteers, considering a cut-off mark as lower bound for the selection and to minimize the gender unbalance between tasks and venues. The model is exploited and the proposed method can assign the candidates in instances with 10,000 volunteers, 1675 job positions for 14 types of tasks in 5 venues.
