Implementation of environmental policies at CIRSA Italy: a strategic approach to sustainability

Abstract

This thesis presents the implementation of environmental policies at CIRSA Italy, focusing on developing a unified strategy for sustainable waste management. The project continues a previous collaboration in which the company’s environmental and biodiversity policies were designed, further consolidating CIRSA’s commitment to corporate sustainability. The present research addresses the lack of a standardized waste management system among CIRSA’s Italian branches and aims to strengthen the company’s environmental governance structure. The main objective of this study is to unify waste management practices across all Italian branches and to establish measurable and traceable systems for waste generation and disposal. The research methodology included structured interviews with CIRSA’s subsidiaries, gaming halls, and bingo centres in Italy. After an initial assessment, the analysis focused on the branch network. Data collected through interviews were used to define operational needs and to identify potential private waste management providers capable of handling all types of waste (including WEEE) on a national scale. Two detailed requirements tables, covering administrative and technical requirements, have been created to evaluate each provider’s compliance and select the most suitable contractor. The results indicate that, while waste collection was properly conducted, the absence of systematic measurement and reporting represented a major gap. Considering CIRSA’s recent entry into the stock market, reliable environmental data and transparent indicators are essential for accurate ESG reporting and corporate reputation. Future developments include contracting the selected provider and extending the unified waste management system to gaming halls and bingo centres across Italy, thereby strengthening CIRSA’s overall sustainability and operational efficiency.
