Abstract

In recent years, hyphen has taken an active role in tracing the intellectual and cultural life circulating through the Stuckeman School. One of the most generative sites of this exchange has been the Faculty Friday series, where faculty members open their research trajectories, design experiments, and in-progress arguments to one another and to our students. Recognizing the density of ideas that surface in these gatherings, and how quickly they disappear without a record, the editorial team invited three Fall 2024 speakers to extend their individual presentations into a shared conversation. What emerged from this invitation is a roundtable shaped as much by the prompts of the journal as by the voices of its participants: Istvan Gyulovics, Amadeu Santacana, and Marcus Shaffer. Their discussion moves fluidly across questions of craft, process, pedagogy, and disciplinary commitments, revealing how distinct practices intersect within the department’s broader research culture. By documenting this exchange, Hyphen underscores its commitment to capturing the evolving forms of dialogue that animate our school and to positioning these everyday intellectual encounters as essential contributions to contemporary architectural discourse
