Marine macroalgae have become an important economic and environmental resource due to their growing interest in multiple applications, including human and animal feeding, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, and agricultural fertilisers industry. A washing protocol is required prior to the processing of the macroalgae for these uses to eliminate impurities and to reduce salt content, which is particularly high in the surface of marine algae.
