Abstract

Valorisation of agricultural by-products is a promising strategy to obtain low carbon embodied thermal insulation materials. In order to expand the use of these materials their fire behaviour needs to be understood. In this work it has been studied the smouldering behaviour of corn pith and alginate samples, as well as the effect of different flame retardants including one bio-based flame-retardant formulation based on phytic acid.
