Measurement methods for 4G LTE benchmarking

Abstract

The current 5G networks introduced beamforming for increased capacity. The use of beams and active beam management make current passive benchmarking methods that are based on RSRP analysis outdate. In modern network we must monitor mobile networks in active probing modes. In this thesis the goal is a fusing between the active monitoring based on the MobileInsight framework in combination with UDP based burst measurements. MobileInsight offers direct visibility of the low layer communication in the mobile network on the side of the UE, while UDP burst measurements allow

Actualmente casi toda la población utiliza su teléfono móvil y este número sigue aumentando año tras año. Esto ha hecho que el desarrollo de las comunicaciones móviles sea una prioridad, ya que cada año la gente quiere tener un mejor acceso a la red móvil. Para mantener o mejorar la calidad de la red, necesitamos métodos de medición confiables que puedan proporcionarnos toda la información necesaria para ver los problemas de la red y mejorarlos. En este proyecto descubriremos cómo funcionan las redes y sus características más importantes. Además, veremos algunos métodos que nos ayudan a recopilar datos y cómo procesarlos para una visualización viable.

Actualment gairebé tota la població utilitza el seu telèfon mòbil i aquesta xifra no para de augmentar any rere any. Això ha fet que el desenvolupament de les comunicacions mòbils sigui una prioritat, ja que cada any la gent vol tenir un millor accés a la xarxa mòbil. Per mantenir o millorar la qualitat de la xarxa necessitem mètodes de mesura fiables que ens puguin proporcionar tota la informació necessària per veure els problemes de la xarxa i millorar-los. En aquest projecte descobrirem com funcionen les xarxes i les seves característiques més importants. A més, veurem alguns mètodes que ens ajuden a recollir dades i com processar-les per a una visualització viable.

Currently almost all the population uses their mobile phone and this number keeps increasing year after year. This has made the development of mobile communications a priority, since every year people want to have a better access to the mobile network. In order to maintain or improve the network's quality we need reliable measurement methods which can provide us with all the information needed to see the issues of the network and improve them. In this project we will discover how networks operate and their most important characteristics. Moreover, we will see some methods which help us gather data and how to process it for a viable visualization.
