Se ha estudiado el holotipo de Abax sexualis Fairmaire, 1881 en el único ejemplar colectado por Fairmaire
y se establece su sinonimia con Abax pyrenaeus pyrenaeus Dejean, 1828. Se ha localizado la serie típica de Abax
pyrenaeus v. montserratensis Mas de Xaxars, 1915, y se reafirma su consideración como variedad de la subespecie
típica. Igualmente, se designa el lectotipo ♂ y los paralectotipos ♂ y ♀. Todos los ejemplares de ambos taxones
se hallan depositados en la colección del Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona.

The holotype of Abax sexualis Fairmaire, 1881 has been studied from the only specimen collected by Fair maire and its synonymy with Abax pyrenaeus spp. pyrenaeus Dejean, 1828 is established. The typical series of
Abax pyrenaeus v. montserratensis Mas de Xaxars, 1915 has been located, and its consideration as a variety of
the typical subspecies is reaffirmed. Likewise, the lectotype ♂ and the parallelectotypes ♂ and ♀ are designated.
All specimens of both taxa are deposited in the collection of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona.
