Abstract

Parapetalium espanyoli gen. n., sp. n. is now described from Uganda, Tropical African Region. This new Dorcatominae belongs to the Petalium LeConte, 1861 section due to the morphology of the metasternal lobe, the second abdominal sternite and the aedeagus. It could easily be distinguished from Exopetalium Español, 1963, Afropetalium Español, 1964, and Nesopetalium Español, 1968, by the antennae, prothorax very transverse, lateral stria of the elytra and aedeagical morphology (parameres reduced, lobe of the parameres long and the development of the median lobe). It also differs from Petalium LeConte, 1861, Synanobium Schilsky, 1899, and Metapetalium Español, 1967, by the metasternal lobe not narrowed on the base. The keys to genus and species from the African Region are also included.
