Neoxyletobius g. n. para Xyletobius oculatus Sharp, 1881 (Coleoptera, Anobiidae, Xyletininae)

Abstract

Neoxyletobius is proposed as new genus for Xyletobius oculatus Sharp, 1881 (type species). This genus is only known from the Hawaiian Islands, also including Xyletobius kirkaldyi Perkins, 1910 and possibly Xyletobius rodidus Perkins, 1910. It may be separated from the genus Xyletobius Sharp, 1881 mainly by the morphology of antennae, last joint of maxillary palpi, metasternum, genital segment (without apical projections) and aedeagus (parameres without lateral lobe, inner sac without distinct armature). The doubtful validity of the genus Holcobius Sharp, 1881 in relation to Xyletobius Sharp, 1881, and its position within the Xyletininae, are discussed.
