Cuidadoras, gestoras y productoras: trabajos de mujeres en el registro arqueológico de las sociedades ibera

Abstract

This paper deals with the interpretation of women’s work in relation to funerary and domestic contexts inAndalusian sites spanning the 4th to the 1st century BC. This period is known for the emergence of aristo-cracy and systems of patron/client relations in Iberian urban sites. The present paper argues that women pla-yed a more important role in society than previously based on a analysis of their participation in mainte-nance and caring activities. In common with other ancient Mediterranean societies, the evidence from Iberian sites demonstrates the importance of the pro-duction of textiles in relation with women’s work and their changing role in society since the 4th century BC.
