El poblament rural romà al conventus Tarraconensis entre Tarraco i Saguntum. Els condicionants naturals, les vies de comunicació i els esdeveniments històrics

Abstract

Es planteja aquí un estat de la qüestió sobre el sector meridional de l’antic conventus Tarraconensis, comprès entre les ciutats de Tarraco i Saguntum, en època romana. S’analitzen els condicionants físics i els esdeveniments històrics que determinaren l’evolució del poblament rural en aquest territori. També es tenen en compte les vies de comunicació com a element vertebrador d’aquest poblament, així com la navegació de cabotatge i fluvial de l’Ebre, com a elements que influïren en l’economia antiga de la zona.

We present here a state of the issue regarding the southern sector of the ancient conventus Tarraconensis, between the cities of Tarraco and Saguntum, in Roman times. The physical conditions and historical events that determined the evolution of the rural population in this territory are analysed. The communication routes are also considered as the backbone of this settlement, as well as the cabotage and fluvial navigation of the Ebro, as elements that influenced the ancient economy of the area.
