Abstract

The decorative system of the Queen Mary’s Psalter shows a moral message by the use of narrative exempla and symbol-images. This essay aims to demonstrate the double nature of the Courtly Scenes in the margin of the manuscripts. On the one hand they belonged to a repertoire very common in Marginalia, on the other hand the elegant but unusual dances in the psalter seem to work as image-synthesis both of a moral message and of episodes of dance in Courtly Literature
