Additive and subtractive technologies are disrupting numerous fields in society at various levels. Until recent years, 3D printing has been limited to considerably industrialized sectors that have been historically provided with advanced technologies associated with computer numerical control (CNC). Educational environments have been seldom enriched with these technologies due to their high cost. Today's possibilities in digital fabrication using personal computers and affordable equipment are blooming. Digital fabrication is penetrating in the classroom at pre-university levels. Its use in higher education classroom is also increasing in sectors related to industrial engineering
as well as in architecture. In this paper, some educational perspectives involving 3D printing and its use in basic and advanced courses of steel structures design are described. |
