Abstract

Continuous perceptual maps present a novel approach to refining rating scales by capturing nuanced interpretation of subjective opinions. These maps integrate linguistic rating scales with sentiment analysis to provide a richer representation of user evaluations. We use the concept of a linguistic perceptual map to differentiate user rating profiles and sentiment analysis, derived from textual feedback, to enhance the granularity of these ratings. The continuous perceptual map framework offers a robust platform for projecting, comparing, and aggregating user evaluations. In this study, we formally introduce the continuous perceptual map, along with measures of centrality, enabling a more comprehensive description of evaluations from diverse user groups. The practical value of this approach is illustrated through a case example on book reviews, highlighting its effectiveness in real-world applications.
