This paper explores the relationship among the main three professionals who work in the social field in Spain: social workers, social educators and pedagogues. To contextualise the current situation with regard to these professions, the first section presents the most notable events in the history of the social professions. In the second section we present the main
characteristics concerning the areas of work and the professional competences. In the third section we discuss some of the challenges related to the current training of these professionals
