Dones musulmanes i hijab: sota “el vel” de la seva realitat. Un estudi exploratori amb dones musulmanes a Catalunya

Abstract

Currently, the Muslim woman wearing hijab can be subject to various situations of discrimination due to the prejudices about Islam offered by the media and discourses about the East, which provide a stereotypical image of women, that makes it difficult and imposes burdens and barriers on the development of his life. In this article, the question is contextualized, keeping in mind what it means to be a Muslim person in Europe and reviewing the international literature on the decision of Muslim women to wear the hijab in Western countries. On the other hand, and through an exploratory study, based on semi-structured interviews with Muslim women, it is intended to analyze the meaning that the hijab has for these women, how the reactions of the environment affect them and what the experiences of discrimination suffered because of it

En l’actualitat, la dona musulmana amb hijab pot ser objecte de diverses situacions de discriminació degut als prejudicis sobre l’Islam que ofereixen els mitjans de comunicació i els discursos sobre l’Orient, els quals proporcionen una imatge estereotipada sobre la dona, que dificulta i li imposa càrregues i barreres en el desenvolupament de la seva vida. En aquest treball es contextualitza la qüestió tenint present què significa ser una persona musulmana a Europa i revisant la literatura internacional sobre la decisió de dones musulmanes de posar-se el hijab en països occidentals. Per altra banda, i mitjançant un estudi exploratori, basat en entrevistes semi-estricturades amb dones musulmanes, es pretén analitzar el significat que el hijab té per aquestes dones, com les reaccions de l’entorn les afecta i quines poden haver estat les experiències de discriminació patides per la seva incorporació
