Notas sobre el Matrimonio en el oriente y occidente cristiano durante la Antigüedad tardía y el alto Medioevo

Abstract

This paper analyzes a comparison between some issues related to marriage in Christian Mediterranean, in both the West and the Byzantine area. The first section briefly presents the social and legal context of the period, as well as the role that the institution of marriage and the nuclear family had in late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages. Finally, some notions of the Christian conception of marriage are treated. In the second section, several assumptions or requirements of marriage and betrothal that are common to both sides of Christendom are ana- lyzed, especially impediments to marriage on account of kinship

En este trabajo se presenta una comparación de algunas cuestiones referidas al matrimonio en el mediterráneo cristiano occidental y Bizantino. En el primer apartado se trata brevemente el contexto social y jurídico de la época, así como también del papel que la institución del matrimonio y la familia nuclear tuvieron en la Antigüedad tardía y el alto Medioevo y, por último, se presentan algunas nociones de la concepción cristiana del matrimonio. En el segundo apartado se analizan algunos supuestos o requisitos para el matrimonio y esponsales comunes a ambos lados de la Cristiandad, en especial los impedimentos por parentesco
