El jaciment de s’Illa des Porros, excavat a finals dels anys cinquanta i durant la dècada dels seixanta i a la segona meitat dels noranta, ha proporcionat evidències d’ús en dues fases diferenciades: una de caràcter no funerari durant el bronze mig i final i inicis de la primera edat del ferro i l’altra de caràcter funerari a la segona edat del ferro. Les restes de la primera, de caràcter estructural, ceràmic i arqueofaunístic, es discuteixen i s’il·lustren àmpliament, atesa la importància del jaciment en les propostes d’intercanvis ultramarins a llarga distància. La segona fase aplega una successió d’estructures, rituals i subfases: les construccions més antigues són similars a les de la segona fase de la propera necròpolis de Son Real i foren seguides per un sector de necròpolis d’inhumació infantil en fossa i urnes, la construcció d’una cambra d’enterrament col·lectiu i posteriorment de dues cambres més, en les quals s’alternen inhumacions, cremacions en calç i purificacions dels espais. A l’exterior de les cambres existí de manera coetània un sector d’enterrament en fossa simple o condicionada i al seu interior existí també una darrera fase d’inhumacions ja en època altimperial. Especialment notable és la identificació de les microestructures anteriors a les cambres i de la necròpolis infantil, que proporciona la data més antiga coneguda a Mallorca. Les datacions radiocarbòniques han permès confirmar la cronologia aportada anteriorment pels materials arqueològics i per l’estratigrafia documentada.

The site of s’Illa des Porros was excavated at the end of the fifties and during the sixties and also at the second half of the nineties. The islet delivered evidences of use during two periods: the oldest, with a non-funerary character, during the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age and the youngest, a cemetery of the Late Iron Age. The earliest remains (some badly damaged structures, pottery and animal bones) are profusely discussed and illustrated as the site had a key role in the interpretations of a long distance overseas trade. The latest period encompasses successive structures, rituals and stages: the more ancient tombs are similar to the ones found during the second phase of the nearby cemetery of Son Real, they were followed by an infant necropolis composed of pits and urns, a collective funerary chamber and later by two more chambers, where inhumations, cremations with lime and purifications occurred. At the same time outside these chambers some individuals were buried in simple or at some extend conditioned pits. A latest phase of interments also existed inside chambers during the Early Roman Empire. It has to be underlined the novelty of the earlier phase of microstructures and the child cemetery, which provides the oldest dates for Mallorca. Radiocarbon dating has allowed to confirm the previously proposed chronology based on archaeological artefacts and the recorded stratigraphy.
