Construction of large shafts are required in underground works involving tunneling or construction of deep sewer systems. Ground movements originated from shaft excavation are a major concern, particularly in urban areas. The TFM addresses this topic by means of a geotechnical finite element code Plaxis and the comparison with a real case in London consisting of 2 shafts excavated in London clay and well described by Newhouse (2017). Comparison with analytical and approximate formulas will be carried out as well.
