Simulation and Optimization of Complex Energy Components and Systems

The aim of this thesis is to perform a simulation and optimization of the energetic components of an energy plant. The project will be focused in the study case for the company Cover on its plant located in Novara (Italy). The main goal is determine when each energy component of the plant has to be operating and at which level of its capacity in order to minimize the cost of the whole system and understand the interaction between the different elements of the system. The project can be divided in three parts: create the scenarios for running the simulations the modeling of the plant, simulation and optimization and interpretation of the results. The first part consists in collect all the necessary information in order to run the simulations. In this part all the components for modeling the plant will be created and all the interactions will be defined. Moreover, all the demand and price profiles will be created and structured in the right way so all the data could be analyzed by the optimization software. The second part consist in perform the optimization and collect all the output data for a later analysis. Finally, with the results obtained from the simulation, an analysis of all the data has to be done in order to understand all the interactions of the system and be able to provide the optimal solution that minimize the operating cost.
