Validation of the wheel calculation process: sensitivity analysis and comparison with measurements on real parts

This project investigates the effects in three different studies. The first analysis explores how the results from the FE model change when the mesh input parameters are varying, such as mesh size, the chosen mesher, the load application system and the midnode method. Once the first analysis is completed, as a next step this project shows how different are the FE model results, when the model is developed with nominal measurements and maximum tolerances. At last step, this project makes a comparison between test bench measurements obtained from the Deutsche Bahn AG, and the obtained values in the first study (based on the already chosen optimal mesh parameters). As a final result, these three studies make possible knowing that in the cases where the optimal mesh parameters are implemented, the results on the web design would be the closest to the real cases.
