Main target of this study is to make a thorough analysis of the most common manoeuvres large yachts perform in the harbour of Vilanova i la Geltrú in order to confirm its feasibility with different weather conditions. The aim is seeking for operational and meteorological boundaries to manoeuvre safely in the port.
To do so, I have been working on documents and information supplied by Vilanova Grand Marina which permitted to develop a detailed description of the port facilities and services provided by the company. I also had a great support from the Harbour Master, who fully open his facilities to me, with visits to the marina and deep explanations about their functionality . For the practice part of the study I worked with
the navigation simulator (Transas NTPRO 5000 v 5.35) at Barcelona Nautical College. The following thesis analyses main yacht characteristics and those intern and extern factors that will impact in the yacht manoeuvre at harbour for checking, later on, course effects using the navigation simulator with a similar vessel model. Finally, this project will define specific meteorological limits, in
simulated manoeuvres, which will be used as indicators to be considered in a real situation. |
