Las traducciones francesas de los Triumphi de Petrarca (ca. 1500). Apuntes para una comparación con su recepción en la España del s. XVI

Abstract

Hasta la fecha apenas ha sido estudiada en su conjunto la recepción francesa de los Triumphi de Petrarca a comienzos del siglo XVI, en tiempos de Luis XII y Francisco I. Consta de no menos de cinco traducciones. Después de recordar la «prehistoria» del siglo XV francés, se recogen en la medida de lo posible los datos relativos a dichas cinco traducciones, en prosa o en verso, para permitir una futura comparación con la traducción de los Triumphi al español por Antonio de Obregón (1512). Algunas de ellas traducen o se inspiran parcialmente en el comento de Bernardo Ilicino (1475). Pese a que solo una haya sido impresa, en un formato mucho menos prestigioso que la de Obregón, algunas de ellas ocuparon un lugar destacado en las bibliotecas regias y aristocráticas, con manuscritos que constituyen una de las cumbres del arte de la miniatura francesa de entonces.

At the beginning of the 16th century, under the rule of Louis XII and Francis I, Petrarch's Triumphi were translated into French no less than five times. Even if this fact and the translations themselves have been studied separatedly, they have scarcely been attended as a whole. After a succinct introduction to the influence of the Triumphi in 15th-century France, I describe each of these translations, either in prose or in verse, to make possible a future comparison with Antonio de Obregón's rendering into Spanish (1512). Some of these translations into French were based in the well-known commentary by Bernardo Ilicino (1475), and even though only one was printed, and not in such a neat arrangement as Obregon's, they found a privileged place in the libraries of the royal family and the aristocracy, as some of their copies in manuscript stand among the best samples of the flourishing art of illumination in the France of the period.
