dc.description.abstract
We provide several equivalent descriptions of a highest weight category using recollements of abelian categories. The settings for this are abelian length categories and $ k$ -linear exact categories, where $ k$ denotes any commutative base ring. Also, we discuss Ringel duality and establish a precise connection with Serre duality.
