La percepción de los familiares, profesionales y población general sobre la sexualidad de las personas con discapacidad intelectual

Abstract

El objetivo del siguiente estudio es analizar la percepción de la población sobre la Discapacidad Intelectual (DI) y la sexualidad. Para ello, se han comparado tres grupos concretos; familiares de una persona con Discapacidad Intelectual (DI), profesionales del ámbito y la población general sin contacto o relación con personal con DI. Para la realización del estudio, se ha hecho un recogido de datos sociodemográficos y se ha utilizado el cuestionario de Actitudes hacia el Ámbito de la Sexualidad de las personas con Discapacidad Intelectual, juntamente con el Cuestionario de Actitudes hacia las Relaciones Sexuales de las Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual (ARSEXDI). La muestra consta de 223 participantes diferenciados en tres grupos: 39 familiares, 61 profesionales y 123 población general. Los resultados han revelado que los profesionales tienen la actitud más favorable hacia la sexualidad de las personas con DI, seguido de los familiares, grupo donde los resultados de este estudio han mostrado actitudes más positivas que en estudios realizados anteriormente. También se ha observado que las personas mayores tienen percepciones menos favorables que los jóvenes y las mujeres más favorables que los hombres. Los datos recogidos indican la importancia de seguir trabajando para mejorar dichas actitudes.

The objective of this present study is to analyze the perception of the population regarding Intellectual Disability (ID) and sexuality. To fulfill the study, three specific groups have been compared: relatives of a person with Intellectual Disability (ID), caregivers in the field, and general population without any type of contact or relationship with people with ID. A collection of sociodemographic data has been used, as well as the questionnaire on Attitudes towards the Sphere of Sexuality of people with Intellectual Disabilities and, the Questionnaire on Attitudes towards Sexual Relationships of People with Intellectual Disabilities (ARSEXDI). The sample consists of 223 participants differentiated into three groups: 39 family members, 61 caregivers and 123 general population. The results have revealed that caregivers are the ones with a more favorable attitude towards the sexuality of people with ID, followed by the relatives, whose results in this study have turned out more positive than in previous studies. Furthermore, results show how older people have less favorable perceptions than younger people, and women are more favorable than men. The data collected in this study indicates the importance of continuing to work to improve these mentioned attitudes.
