El rol dels germans de les persones amb discapacitat intel·lectual

Abstract

Les investigacions al llarg dels anys han posat de manifest que els germans de les persones amb discapacitat poden presentar problemes en l'àmbit personal, social i professional. No obstant això, la manera d'enfrontar les necessitats del germà o germana determinarà si aquests canvis són negatius com s'acostuma a creure, o pel contrari, aporten experiències positives i enriquidores. Aquesta recerca pretén investigar l'impacte que causa tenir un germà amb discapacitat intel·lectual, i per tant, per a portar a terme aquesta anàlisi es va partir d'un estudi de tipus transversal, fent ús d'una metodologia qualitativa, ja que el treball consisteix a recollir dades, a través d’entrevistes, que vénen de les vivències pròpies dels protagonistes, de les seves percepcions i experiències. Els participants han estat 10 germans i germanes de persones amb discapacitat intel·lectual, d'edats entre 10 i 60 anys. Els resultats mostren com la situació familiar, el tipus de malaltia, la informació sobre aquesta, les relacions dins la família, entre d'altres, són factors els quals influencien directament sobre l'impacte que pot causar en un subjecte el fet de tenir un germà en aquestes condicions. També s'evidencia el fet que els participants es mostren contents amb la seva situació familiar i no la canviarien per cap altra.

Research over the years has shown that siblings of people with disabilities can present problems in the personal, social and professional. However, how to deal with the needs of the brothers or sisters will determine whether these changes are negative as commonly believed, or on the contrary, contributes positive and enriching experiences. This research aims to investigate the impact that having a brother who suffers from a disability, and therefore to carry out this analysis was based on a cross-sectional study, using a qualitative methodology, since the work is gathering data, through interviews, coming from their own experiences of the characters, their perceptions and experiences. Participants were 10 brothers and sisters of people who suffer mental disabilities, aged between 10 and 60 years. The results show how the family situation, the type of disease, information they have about the disability, relationships within the family, among others, are factors which directly influence the impact that can cause a subject having a brother in these conditions. It also demonstrates the fact that the participants are happy with their family situation and they wouldn’t like to change it.
