Les reporteres estrangeres. Les grans invisibilitzades de la Guerra Civil : Martha Gellhorn, Virginia Cowles i Gertrude Gaffney

Abstract

Amb el pas del temps la historiografia s’ha encarregat de silenciar la veu de centenars de dones que van arriscar la seva vida per a cobrir la Guerra Civil Espanyola. En aquest Treball de Fi de Grau s’ha intentat recuperar la veu de tres periodistes estrangeres que van cobrir el conflicte espanyol i s’ha analitzat el seu treball a través d’una metodologia qualitativa. S’han analitzat els articles que Martha Gellhorn, Virginia Cowles i Gertrude Gaffney van publicar sobre la Guerra Civil i la manera en què cadascuna va decidir cobrir la guerra, amb les seves similituds i diferències. Un dels temes recurrents al llarg de tot el treball és l’aspecte de l’objectivitat en el periodisme de guerra i la relació entre la subjectivitat periodística i la qüestió de gènere. El principal objectiu d’aquest treball ha estat rescatar el paper de les corresponsals estrangeres enviades a cobrir la Guerra Civil Espanyola. Esperem haver contribuït a fer justícia a totes les dones que van arriscar la seva vida per a informar a la població mundial del que estava passant a Espanya.

Over the years, the voice of hundreds of women who risked their lives to cover the Spanish Civil War has been silenced by historiography. In this Final Degree Thesis, we have tried to recover the voices of three foreign journalists who covered the Spanish conflict and we have analysed their work using a qualitative methodology. We have analysed the articles that Martha Gellhorn, Virginia Cowles and Gertrude Gaffney published about the Civil War and the way in which each of them decided to cover the war, with their similarities and differences. One of the recurring topics throughout the project has been the aspect of objectivity in war journalism and the connection between journalistic subjectivity and gender. The main aim of this project has been to retrieve the role that foreign correspondents sent to cover the Spanish Civil War played. Hopefully, we have contributed to advocate for all the women who risked their lives to inform the world population of what was going on in Spain.

Con el paso del tiempo la historiografía se ha encargado de silenciar la voz de centenares de mujeres que arriesgaron su vida para cubrir la Guerra Civil Española. En este Trabajo de Fin de Grado se ha intentado recuperar la voz de tres periodistas extranjeras que cubrieron el conflicto español y se ha analizado su trabajo a través de una metodología cualitativa. Se han analizado los artículos que Martha Gellhorn, Virginia Cowles y Gertrude Gaffney publicaron sobre la Guerra Civil y la manera en la que cada una decidió cubrir la guerra, con sus similitudes y diferencias. Uno de los temas recurrentes al largo de todo el trabajo es la objetividad en el periodismo de guerra y la relación entre la subjetividad periodística y la cuestión de género. El principal objetivo de este trabajo ha sido rescatar el papel de las corresponsales extranjeras enviadas a cubrir la Guerra Civil Española. Esperamos haber contribuido a hacer justicia a todas las mujeres que arriesgaron su vida para informar a la población mundial de lo que estaba pasando en España.
