dc.description.abstract
This study lies within the field of language perception and aims to analyse the extent to which the identification of errors in Catalan—especially those resulting from contact with Spanish, such as castilianisms or hypercorrections—is influenced by listeners’ prior expectations regarding the speaker’s origin. Using a matched guise technique, two versions of the same perceptual survey are administered, featuring identical oral phrases differing only in the perceived identity of the speaker: either native or not native.
The goal is to determine whether a perceptual bias emerges based on the speaker's attributed profile and the linguistic expectations it evokes. The study contributes to the understanding of the interplay between perceptual variation, language attitudes, and internalised norms of standard Catalan among native listeners
