El Rol de la Gran Presa del Renaixement Etíop en la diplomàcia hidropolítica del Nil

Abstract

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is the largest gravity dam in Africa. This immense infrastructure, located on the Blue Nile, has massive storage capacity and can produce hydroelectric power on a large scale in one of the continent's most needy regions. The construction of this dam, however, has generated an escalation of tension between the Ethiopian government and the Egyptian and Sudanese authorities because the three countries depend on Nile water to maintain economic development and social peace. After multiple failed attempts to negotiate an agreed solution to the concerns that the project has raised, it has become evident that there is a possibility of a water conflict breaking out in the future. This study aims to describe the geopolitical impact of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the regional relations of the Nile basin and on the control of the water resources of the Nile River. The methodology used to carry out this work has been the bibliographic review of academic articles

La Gran Presa del Renaixement Etíop és la presa de gravetat més gran d’Àfrica. Aquesta immensa infraestructura, situada en el Nil Blau, té una capacitat d'emmagatzematge massiva i pot produir energia hidroelèctrica a gran escala en una de les regions més necessitades del continent. La construcció d’aquesta presa, però, ha generat una escalada de la tensió entre el govern etíop i les autoritats egípcies i sudaneses perquè els tres països depenen de l’aigua del Nil per mantenir el desenvolupament econòmic i la pau social. Després dels múltiples intents fallits per a negociar una solució pactada sobre les preocupacions que el projecte ha despertat, s’ha evidenciat que hi ha la possibilitat que esclati un conflicte hídric en el futur. Aquest estudi té com a objectiu descriure quin és l’impacte geopolític de la Gran Presa del Renaixement Etíop en les relacions regionals de la conca del Nil i en el control dels recursos hídrics del riu Nil. La metodologia que s’ha emprat per a la realització d’aquest treball ha sigut la revisió bibliogràfica d’articles acadèmics
