Abstract

In this paper, we analyse the characteristics of the adverbial subordinated sentences with a locative meaning which are introduced by Spanish particles según and conforme (El baño está {según/ conforme} bajas la escalera, “The bathroom is just as you get down the stairs”). We argue that the spatial interpretation of these sentences is compositionally built by adding the relational meaning of the particle to two features of its sentential complement: genericity (articulated through an unspecific subject and an imperfective verbal tense) and the presence of a verb of inherently directed motion (which encodes path value characteristic of these constructions)

En este trabajo se analizan las propiedades de las subordinadas con interpretación locativa introducidas por las partículas según y conforme (El baño está {según/conforme} bajas la escalera). Argumentamos que la interpretación locativa se construye composicionalmente a partir de la suma del significado relacional de la partícula y dos propiedades de su complemento oracional: la genericidad (expresada por el sujeto inespecífico y el tiempo verbal imperfectivo) y la presencia de un verbo de dirección inherente, que codifica el valor de trayectoria característico de estas construcciones
