Abstract

This paper has several aims. The first one is to raise an objection to Jackson and Pettit’s analysis of the notion of programme explanation. The second, to offer an alternative analysis of this notion which is free from tha objection. The third point is to distinguish between informative and noninformative funcional explanations. And the last one is to show that informative funcional explanations can be characterised as programme explanations, in the sense of the notion proposed in this work
