Starting, contributing and empowering community networks in cities: experiences in Barcelona

Aquest projecte estudia el creixement d’una comunitat en xarxa a Barcelona. El treball ha sigut desenvolupat en dos escenaris. En el primer, una comunitat en xarxa ha crescut a Sant Andreu, un barri on abans no n’hi havia. En el segon escenari, una comunitat en xarxa s’ha fet més robusta a Poblenou. En aquest segon escenari s’utilitza un túnel de tràfic a través de la xarxa acadèmica entre dues universitats que complementa a la xarxa troncal sense fils.

The present project studies the growth of a community network in Barcelona. The work has developed in two scenarios. In the first one, a community network has been grown in Sant Andreu, a neighborhood where no community network was available. In the second scenario, an existing community network has been strengthened in Poblenou. This second scenario contemplates the tunneling of traffic using academic networks between two universities to complement community wireless backbones.
